What is Tixel®?
Tixel® is the first and only Thermal-Mechanical Action (TMA®) technology for skin resurfacing that treats all skin types and safe for eye lid area. TMA® is a technology that combines motion and heat with the forward movement of a medical-grade titanium tip. This proprietary non-invasive technology transfers thermal energy to skin quickly, safely, and effectively.
As a non-laser technology, the hand piece is able to come as close to the eyelid margin as it is able to, without any protective eyewear required. It a low pain, low down time treatment, with quick patient recovery and substantial results.
What can Tixel® treat?
Tixel® can be used on all skin types and is used for the treatment of:
- Lines around the eyes, dark circles, eye bags and droopy eyelids
- Tightening of the upper and lower eyelids
- Rejuvenation for face, neck, decolletage
- Reduce mild to moderate wrinkles
- Superficial Acne and acne scarring
- Skin Resurfacing
How does Tixel® work? Using thermo-mechanical technology is transferred to the skin using the hot titanium plate, the machine is stamped across the treatment area creating micro channels to help induce a controlled injury, the skin will go through a natural healing process resulting in new collagen stimulation. These are the proteins that keep our skin strong and flexible. The wound-healing process also involves increased production of the growth factors that assist in new skin tissue formation. This results in improvements in skin tightness and texture. The Tixel® system has three modes:
* TIXEL GLOW - very surface-level, minimal downtime 2-3 days. It creates open channels in the skin to help enhance product absorption to the most beneficial depth. Suitable for clients looking to enhance skin radiance and achieve a glowing effect.
* TIXEL INTENSE - ablative medium to deep level, heats below the surface of the skin to induce collagen remodeling. Downtime 5-8 days. Perfect for those seeking a collagen boost, smoother fine lines and wrinkles, and overall skin rejuvenation.
* TIXEL SUPER INTENSE - skin resurfacing, uses heat on the skin surface to create micro-injuries, stimulating the body to produce collagen and remodel the skin. This is the most intensive treatment and has the strongest tightening effect. Ablation, meaning the skin is broken through heat, causes all of those changes that we want, but also causes us to have more downtime 7-14 days. Ideal for reducing scarring, improving skin texture, and minimizing pore size.
- Wear SPF 50+, avoid sun exposure and tanning for at least 2 weeks prior treatment.
- Discontinue using active ingredients for 1 week prior treatment.
- Apply Numbing cream 1 hour prior to the treatment.
Downtime: This will depend on the level of your treatment. Your skin may feel tight, warm and slightly sensitive, as if you have been in the sun, with some mild swelling and redness 24-72 hours post treatment..
- Tixel Glow - lower intensity treatment down time for 24-48 hours
- Tixel Intensive - moderated intensity treatment down time for 3-5 days.
- Tixel Super Intense - high intensity treatment ( skin resurfacing ) down time for 7-10 days.
- Tixel® around the mouth may trigger cold sores, this can be treated as you would normally treat an outbreak.
During treatment:
- The Tixel® uses direct heated titanium plate touch the skin with short-contact to creating a controlled wound and it will be slightly uncomfortable, however the discomfort lasted for less than a second.
- You may experience a warm or tingling sensation, but the procedure is generally well-tolerated.
What to expect:
- Day 1-3: Redness, swelling and heat sensation similar to a sunburn.
- Day 3-5: Micro- crusting appears and skin feels rough.
- Day 5-7: Crusting falls off, revealing smoother, rejuvenated skin.
- Important to keep the area clean and avoid touching the treatment area to minimize the risk of infection.
- Apply Laser Aid for 48 hours after treatment 3-5 times.
- After 48 hours apply Repair Balm twice a day for skin hydration.
- Apply sunscreen after 3-5 days
- Apply make up after 5-7 days.
- No active ingredient 7 days
- No sun exposure, no exfoliating 2 weeks.

FAQs
Tixel-Glow is suitable for clients looking to enhance skin radiance and achieve a glowing effect with minimal downtime.
Tixel-Intense is perfect for those seeking a collagen boost, smoother fine lines and wrinkles, and overall skin rejuvenation.
Tixel-Super Intense is ideal for reducing scarring, improving skin texture, and minimizing pore size.
Tixel is highly effective for rejuvenating the skin around the eyes, addressing issues such as fine lines, wrinkles, crow’s feet, and skin laxity. Its precision and controlled heat delivery make it suitable for delicate areas that are typically challenging to treat with more aggressive laser or microneedling treatments. Here’s how it works around the eyes:
- Thermal Stimulation for Collagen Production: Tixel uses a heated metal plate with tiny pyramid tips to deliver thermal energy to the skin, which stimulates collagen and elastin production. This helps tighten the skin and smooth fine lines, especially effective in softening crow’s feet and under-eye wrinkles.
- Non-Ablative Treatment: Unlike lasers, Tixel doesn’t remove the skin’s outer layer, making it safer for the thin, sensitive skin around the eyes. It works beneath the skin surface to stimulate renewal, which minimizes the risk of irritation and downtime.
- Tightening and Lifting: The controlled heat from Tixel helps tighten loose skin, offering a subtle lifting effect. This is particularly beneficial for reducing puffiness or laxity on the upper and lower eyelids.
- Enhanced Product Absorption: Tixel’s microchannels can temporarily increase the permeability of the skin around the eyes, allowing skincare products like serums or creams to penetrate more deeply. This can enhance the effectiveness of anti-aging ingredients applied post-treatment.
- Quick Healing and Minimal Downtime: Since Tixel doesn’t involve needles or lasers, the recovery time is generally short, with only mild redness or swelling that resolves within a day or two.
This makes Tixel a popular choice for people seeking to rejuvenate the delicate eye area with minimal invasiveness and downtime. Results appear gradually, and several sessions may be recommended for optimal improvement.
- Thermal Microchannels: The Tixel device uses heat to create microchannels in the skin without breaking the surface, which allows the thermal energy to penetrate and stimulate the skin’s renewal process. This helps clear up mild acne lesions by reducing blockages within the pores.
- Oil Control and Pore Reduction: The thermal stimulation from Tixel can help regulate oil production, reducing the environment that allows acne bacteria to thrive. It also tightens the skin and reduces pore size, which is beneficial for acne-prone skin by reducing the buildup of oil and dirt.
- Stimulates Skin Healing: By promoting collagen and elastin production, Tixel enhances the skin’s natural ability to heal itself. This can improve the overall texture of the skin, soften acne scars, and lead to a more balanced skin tone.
- Anti-Inflammatory Benefits: The controlled heat applied by Tixel has mild anti-inflammatory effects, which can be helpful for reducing redness and inflammation associated with acne.
- Heat Delivery: The device has a small, heated metal plate with tiny pyramid-shaped tips. These tips quickly make brief contact with the skin, delivering thermal energy directly to the dermis without breaking the skin surface. This creates microchannels in the skin.
- Collagen Stimulation: The heat from the Tixel device promotes the skin’s natural wound-healing response, leading to increased collagen and elastin production. These proteins are vital for skin structure and help to soften scars and improve skin texture.
- Precision and Control: Tixel allows for highly controlled depth and intensity of treatment, making it safe even for sensitive areas. The heat application can be adjusted to suit different types of scars and skin types, leading to effective and tailored results.
- Minimal Downtime: Unlike traditional lasers or microneedling, Tixel has less downtime and is generally gentler, making it a good choice for clients who want effective scar treatment with minimal recovery time.
Since it doesn’t use needles or lasers, Tixel is also a good option for people who might be sensitive to other treatments. With a series of sessions, Tixel can significantly improve scar appearance, making skin look smoother and more even.
Difference Between Fractional CO2 and Tixel®:
Both fractional CO2 and Tixel® treatments aim to achieve skin rejuvenation through controlled thermal energy. However, the main difference lies in the application method. While fractional CO2 employs laser technology, Tixel® employs a thermal process using a titanium tip.
Tixel® treatment is generally considered less invasive and has a shorter recovery time compared to fractional CO2, making it a more attractive option for those seeking minimal downtime.
Difference Between HIFU and Tixel®:
High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) and Tixel® treatment are popular options for skin rejuvenation but operate through distinct mechanisms. HIFU uses focused ultrasound waves to target deeper skin levels and layers of tissue, promoting collagen production. On the other hand, the Tixel® treatment creates controlled thermal microchannels on the skin’s surface.
While both treatments offer similar benefits, Tixel® may be preferred by individuals looking for a more surface-level approach with less pain.
Difference between Tixel and Plasma Pen or fibroblasting
Plasma is one of the riskiest aesthetic procedures. The risks of permanent scarring & gridding are high, with very little benefit. Tixel® is more effective than plasma, costs less than plasma & is infinitely safer.
Tixel® treatment is suitable for individuals with mild to moderate skin concerns, including signs of aging and textural irregularities, who want an overall improvement in their skin quality and elasticity.
However, those with severe skin conditions or certain medical conditions may not be ideal candidates. It’s essential to consult with a qualified skincare or cosmetic professional to determine the suitability of the treatment.
Unsuitable candidates for Tixel® include:
- Patients with moderate to severe laxity. Tixel® has a low chance of working in this group
- Recent tanning on your skin – we advise waiting 2-4 weeks
- Have just had Toxin injections- we advise waiting a week after toxin injections. Swelling can disperse anti-wrinkles.
- Are pregnant.
Tixel® can treat multiple body areas, including the face, neck, décolletage and backs of the hands. Unlike a laser treatment, Tixel® is safe to use on the eyelids, tear troughs and periorbital areas for a nonsurgical eyelid lift or wrinkle reduction.
The Tixel® system has three modes:
- Ablative/Resurfacing Mode uses heat on the skin surface to create micro-injuries, stimulating the body to produce collagen and remodel the skin. This is the most intensive Tixel® treatment and has the strongest tightening effect.
- Non-ablative Mode heats below the surface of the skin to induce collagen remodelling. This is the second-most intense Tixel® treatment
- Open-channel Mode is the gentlest Tixel® treatment. Without using needles, it creates open channels in the skin to help enhance product absorption to the most beneficial depth.
The Tixel® procedure itself is relatively quick. A typical full-face treatment takes about 45 minutes. Typically, the use of topical numbing is not required with majority of the treatment however, if anaesthetic cream is used, it is applied 20 to 30 minutes before the treatment to take effect.
During the Tixel® procedure, the handpiece with the titanium plate is in contact with the skin for a fraction of a second. In these short spans, the thermal energy transfers to the skin. The handpiece is then placed to cover the full treatment area.
Results can be seen as little as a week after a Tixel® treatment, when the scabs have gone, and any residual swelling or redness has resolved. The damaged skin surface slowly heals, resulting in visibly clearer and more youthful-looking skin. Depending on the area that was treated, you can expect:
- Skin tightening
- Improvements in skin texture, wrinkles and fine lines
- Reduced scarring or pigmentation
- Smoother under-eyes
- Better definition of the eyelids
Results continue to improve over several weeks as the elevated production of collagen and elastin takes effect.
Some areas of skin are more delicate than others, and every patient has his or her own pain threshold. You will feel the touch of the device against your skin and a heating sensation, which at most instances is tolerable. However, topical anaesthetic can be applied before your treatment to minimise any discomfort.
- For Ablative and Non-ablative mode, a course of 3 to 6 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart is often recommended for optimal results.
- For Open Channel mode, 3 to 6 sessions are advised with an interval of 2-4 weeks apart.
The longevity of results from Tixel® can vary depending on individual factors. Generally, the benefits of a Tixel® treatment can last up to one year, with 6 monthly maintenance treatments recommended. Your skin continues to age normally, so we recommend having maintenance treatments as advised by your treating practitioner to maintain the improvements in your complexion.
Tixel® treatment is considered safe, but some potential side effects may include:
- Redness
- Mild swelling in the treated area
- Mild discomfort
- Temporary changes in pigmentation. These effects are usually temporary and subside within a few days
- Small micro crusts
HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) and Tixel are both non-invasive skin treatments but use different technologies and have different effects on the skin.
HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound)
- Technology: Uses focused ultrasound energy to penetrate deep into the skin layers without damaging the surface. This energy stimulates collagen production by heating tissue in targeted areas.
- Depth: Reaches deeper layers of the skin, targeting the SMAS layer (Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System), which is also addressed in surgical facelifts.
- Primary Use: Effective for skin tightening, lifting, and contouring, particularly on the face, neck, and décolletage.
- Results: Gradual improvement in skin firmness and tightness, typically seen over 2-3 months as new collagen forms.
Tixel
- Technology: Uses thermal energy through a heated metal plate with tiny pyramids that briefly contact the skin, creating micro-channels. It is similar to fractional lasers but without light or radiation.
- Depth: More customizable as it works on more superficial skin layers and can vary in depth, making it suitable for sensitive areas like around the eyes.
- Primary Use: Effective for skin resurfacing, improving skin texture, treating fine lines, wrinkles, and pigmentation issues. It’s also used for drug delivery by allowing serums or other treatments to penetrate more deeply.
- Results: Visible improvements in skin texture and tone can often be seen more quickly, with minimal downtime.
Summary
- HIFU: Best for deep lifting and firming.
- Tixel: Best for superficial skin resurfacing, eye rejuvenation, texture improvement, and fine lines.
Each can be chosen depending on the patient’s needs—HIFU for tightening and lifting, and Tixel for texture and tone enhancement. They may also be complementary when combined in a treatment plan. The combination of Tixel and HIFU for an eye lift procedure offers a comprehensive approach to skin rejuvenation.
Yes, combining HIFU and Tixel can be highly effective for eye rejuvenation, as they complement each other well.
How They Work Together for Eye Rejuvenation
- HIFU: Targets deeper layers of the skin around the eyes, helping to lift and tighten the skin. This is useful for addressing sagging or drooping in areas like the upper or lower eyelid and brow area.
- Tixel: Works on the superficial layers of the skin, improving skin texture, fine lines, and wrinkles around the eyes. It’s gentle enough for use in delicate areas and helps smooth out crow’s feet, soften under-eye crepiness, and enhance skin quality.
Benefits of Combining HIFU and Tixel
- Comprehensive Rejuvenation: By addressing both deeper and surface-level skin concerns, this combination can result in more noticeable and longer-lasting eye rejuvenation.
- Dual Action on Collagen and Elasticity: HIFU boosts collagen deeper down, while Tixel focuses on the surface, improving elasticity and texture.
- Minimal Downtime with Enhanced Results: Tixel has minimal downtime, and HIFU is non-invasive. Together, they provide a potent combination without significant recovery time.
Treatment Planning: For best results, it’s generally recommended to space treatments a few weeks apart to allow the skin to recover and benefit from each modality. HIFU can be performed first to lift, followed by Tixel after a few weeks to refine texture and tone. Always ensure a customized approach based on skin type, individual needs, and tolerances, as some patients may respond di
