Redness-Flushing

Flushing/Facial Redness

Facial redness refers to a condition caused by dilated capillaries, most commonly affecting the nose, forehead, and cheeks. These enlarged blood vessels do not present themselves as defined vasculature, but rather as a general facial redness, (for example, the often-used description of “rosy cheeks”)

Causes:  It can happen as a result of many different factors:

  • Ageing
  • Pregnancy
  • Childbirth
  • Prolonged sun exposure
  • Oral contraceptives
  • Estrogen replacement therapy

Prevention:

Gentle skincare: Use a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser and avoid scrubbing your face. After cleansing, apply a moisturizer specifically formulated for sensitive skin.

Sun protection: Sun exposure is a common trigger for rosacea, so it's essential to protect your skin from the sun. Wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF 50+. Reapply whenever is needed or every 2-3 hours under sunny weather in summer. Also, consider wearing a wide-brimmed hat when outdoors.

Avoid irritants: Some skincare products and cosmetics can irritate rosacea-prone skin. Look for products labeled as non-comedogenic and fragrance-free, and avoid products containing alcohol, witch hazel, or other potential irritants
