The Candela Alexandrite laser is used on lighter skin types. This laser utilises a specific wavelength of energy to safely target the dark pigmented spots. The laser fires an intense burst of light to target the pigment lesions leaving normal surrounding skin unaffected. The laser light converts to heat to destroy the damaged pigmentation cells which turn darker over several days then fall off. Treatment benefits people with uneven pigmentation, age spots, freckles,  sun damaged, PHI and Melasma. Final results and number of treatments required are dependent upon skin type. Candidates with lighter skin normally achieve faster results with Candela laser and  darker skin types we will use the Pico Care 450 laser. This laser has shorter faster pulses because of the Picosecond technology and photo acoustically breaks down the pigment. The Pico laser provides targeted and safer pigmentation treatments with less dermal heat than older laser technology.  Less skin heating means Pico laser treatment for pigmentation is significantly safer in darker skin types.  Pico lasers will also be used for melasma treatment. Even your skin tone will improve day to day as the Pico Laser promotes skin collagen production thus improving the skins surface.

Pico Melasma treatment

Pico Melasma and Toning Facial

Melasma is the medical term for disfiguring patches of pigmentation on the face. They can be a result of sun exposure, genetic disposition or hormonal changes during the ageing process. This can also occur during pregnancy or in women taking birth control pills. It is brought about by excess melanin production and formation of concentrated deposits that result in darker patches of skin and an overall ‘blotchy’ appearance that can age your appearance. Short pulse pico laser shatters the targeted pigment in your skin into infinitely small particles that can be easily removed by your body’s natural elimination processes. And it’s ultra-precise. This means there’s minimal risk of damage to surrounding tissue, while the pigment is more easily and efficiently removed.

How does Pico Laser Melasma treatment works ?  Your therapist will double cleanse your skin prior to treatment. The laser will produce short pico second pulses of intense light that pass harmlessly through the top layers of the skin to be absorbed by the dark pigment then Pico powerful laser beam shatters the pigment into infinitely small particles.  Over the course of several treatments, you will see the darker pigmentation gradually fade, as your skin progressively regains a smoother, more refreshed and youthful appearance.

How does the treatment feel? Laser toning treatments involve only mild discomfort. You may experience a slight prickling sensation as the skin tissue is heated. The therapist will move the hand piece carefully over the treatment area. You can expect this to be repeated in a number of passes.

When will I see the results? Melasma treatment is a gradual process that requires a set of sessions to work effectively. With the progress of time and with each treatment, you will notice a building improvement in skin tone.

Are the results permanent? The long-term success of laser toning and melasma treatments are determined by several factors. To achieve the best long-term results from your treatment, it is important to avoid sun damage. Apply a good sunscreen at all times and wear protective clothing during times of maximum sun strength.

Pico Pigmentation treatment

Pico Pigmentation Treatment

How does Pico Laser treat skin pigmentation? Pico powerful and ultra-precise picosecond pulse system is delivered at the right intensity to act on the darkened areas of pigment, minimising the risk of harming the skin and surrounding tissue.

How does Pico Laser Pigmentation treatment works ? Your therapist will double cleanse your skin prior to treatment.  The pigmentation in your skin is targeted with Pico powerful, ultra-precise HEXA MLA laser, shattering the pigment into particles. Your body’s natural processes eliminate the shattered pigment particles, and you will see the discoloration on the surface of your skin gradually fade and disappear. The required number of treatments will depend on the nature of the pigmentation. The pigmentation is removed, leaving even skin tone and a younger, appearance. Pico laser Pigmentation  treatment also smooths superficial lines and wrinkles, helping to turn back the clock for your skin.

What results can I expect? You may experience some initial darkening of the treated areas. This is temporary, and after about 5 -7 days, they will begin to fade. They will become progressively lighter with each treatment. Usually 3 – 4 treatments are required to reduce most of the pigment; however, this will depend on your skin and the nature of the pigmentation.

Will Pico laser suit my skin type? Picocare can be used successfully on light or dark skin types. As well as addressing pigmentation, Pico laser  is an excellent choice for all-round skin rejuvenation treatment.

How will the treatment feel? You will be aware of light warmth in the treatment area. You will feel a slight sting, as if a rubber band is being snapped against your skin, but this is minimal, and highly tolerated by patients. Pico Laser picosecond treatment is significantly more tolerable than other types of laser treatment.

Is Laser Pigmentation Treatment suitable for all skin type & all kinds of pigmentation?

Laser pigmentation treatments are not suitable for all skin type & all type of pigmentations.

If your skin tone is medium to dark or your pigmentation is caused by hormonal or medication it cannot be treated with laser.

Please book a Consultation to determine if your skin is suitable.

It works best on clients with fair skin, and blue, green, grey eyes. If your skin is Fitzpatrick 4 to 5 , you are of Asian background or have sensitive or rosacea skin it is best to have a consultation.

Depending on the type of pigmentation being treated, clients will need between 2-6 treatments. The effectiveness of the treatment will be determined by the type, colour and depth of the pigmentation along with the condition of the skin. Complete clearing of the affected area may not be possible and will depend upon the type, area and colour of the lesion.

The heat from the laser is concentrated at a superficial level so it is likely that the client will experience some discomfort while the treatment is being performed. The treated area can feel like sunburn for up to 48 hours afterwards, however cold packs and cooling gel should be used to reduce redness and inflammation.

Following the treatment, the pigmentation will initially appear darker and can continue to deepen in colour for 48 hours post treatment. After this time the pigmentation will then begin to crust and gradually flake away. This process can take up to 14 days depending on the condition of the skin prior to treatment.

We can treat benign pigmentation such as freckles , age spots, , sun spots, hyperpigmentation,  and flat pigmented birth marks.  A  patch test will be performed prior to undergoing treatment and is reviewed to determine the likely success of the treatment. Not suitable for hormonal pigmentation (Melasma).

It can depend on the type and size of the area being treated; most treatments can be completed within 5 to 30 minutes.

The treatment is performed on the Candela GentleLASE 755nm Alexandrite Laser. The laser shatter the pigmentation which creates a wound with the skin causing the area to appear darker, a crust will form her the pigmented lesion and can take up to 14 days to flake away.

Apply LASER AID cream to area for 1 weeks after treatment and in some cases use burn aid cream as well. Cold compress recommended for th first 24 hours. No sun esposure or heat to the area for 2-4 weeks. Don't pick any flaking skin, it will flake away within the next 14 days. No make-up for 3-5 days. Apply SPF 50+ to area daily if exposed to sunlight.

More genetic pigmentation like freckles most likely will come back over time. Pigmentation caused by sun exposure over time may re appear however daily use of SPF can significantly reduce this.
